Will the Standards movement make better learners?

Looking at most recent research, it appears that just being highly qualified in a subject DOES NOT equate solely to student achievement. What are your thoughts?

Hey Fred,

I have found that one of the most important things that foster learning is the relevance of the learning and the relationships educators and learners have. If the topic is relevant it motivates the kids. That really has little or nothing to do with content expertise - although I am very much a proponent of teachers knowing our stuff. If you put the two together you have a powerful classroom!

George- Thanks for the point. I have found that if you have a strong enough relationship with your students (that they repect and trust you) you can even overcome the irrelevant barrier.
